How to Create a Simple Geometric Pattern in Photoshop

Start with a canvas of any size. Set up a selection of your favorite Color Swatches for your pattern's theme. Here I'm using the following colors: #eb9c4d, #bac9a9, #f3ffcf, and #f2d680.

Setup the Color Swatches for Your Geometric Pattern

Select the Polygon Tool or the Custom Shape Tool (U) to create a triangle shape at 100 x 100 px. Use the first orange color for the triangle and place it in the upper left corner.

Create the First Triangle Shape

Hold Control-J to Duplicate the shape three more times. Change the colors according to your theme, and then add a copy of the first triangle to the end of your row. Use the Crop Tool (C) to crop the canvas to the sides of the first and last triangles.

Add More Shapes and Crop the Document

Select all the shapes and Duplicate them. Create a second row of triangles underneath, positioned to the left of the first row. Then use the Rectangular Marquee Tool (M) to select your pattern and go to Edit > Define Pattern to create a new pattern.

Define Your New Pattern Design

Use the Paint Bucket Tool (G) set to Pattern to try out your new design.
