How to Create a Geometric 3D Adobe Photoshop Brush With Cinema 4D

Learn Cinema 4D quickly and easily by creating the complex Geometric Confusion Shape. Follow this tutorial step by step to create an abstract shape and use it as a Photoshop Brush.

I wrote this tutorial based on my item on GraphicRiver. You can check the Geometric Confusion Brushes Set in my portfolio.

Abstract Geometric Confusion Brushes

1. How to Create the Geometric Object

Step 1

Open Cinema 4D. On the top menu bar, Click-Hold on the blue Add Cube Object button. Then select the Platonic object by clicking on it.

The Platonic object has been created. Go to the Object Tab and change the Segments to 3. Then press the keys N-B to see the polygons.

Back to the top menu bar, Click-Hold on the blue Bend button. Then select the Displacer tool by clicking on it.

Now click and drag the Displacer so that it is under Platonic.

Select the Displacer and go to the Shading Tab to specify several parameters. Then select Shader > Noise.

The Noise has been created. Click on the Thumbnail of the Noise.

Go to the Shader Properties and select Noise > Nutous. After that, click on the Arrow icon to return to the other tabs.

Go to the Object Tab and increase the Strength value to 170%. Then put the Height value at 40 cm. Also, you can play around with the settings of the Shape as you want.

Find the two grey dots near the Platonic object. Then Double-click on each grey dot. The dots must be red in color.

2. How to Create the Cloned Spheres

Step 1

To create the sphere, go back to the top menu bar. Click-Hold on the blue Add Cube Object button. Then select the Sphere object by clicking on it.

The Sphere object has been created. Go to the Object Tab and reduce the Radius to 1 cm. Also, change the Segments to 18.

Go to the main menu and select MoGraph > Cloner.

Click and drag the Sphere so that it is under Cloner.

Select the Cloner and go to the Object Tab to edit the Cloner tool. Then select Mode > Object.

Select the Cloner tool again. Then Click-Hold and Drag the Platonic object to the Object Form.

3. How to Create the Cloned Lines

Step 1

Return to the top menu bar again. Click-Hold on the blue Add Cube Object button. After that, select the Cylinder object by clicking on it.

The Cylinder object has been created. Go to the Object Tab and reduce the Radius to 0.1 cm.

Go to the main menu and select MoGraph > Cloner.

Now click and drag the Cylinder so that it is under Cloner.1.

Select the Cloner.1 to edit it. Go to the Object tab and then select Mode > Object.

Now select the Cloner.1 tool again. Click-Hold and Drag the Platonic object to the Object Form.

Look a little lower and find the Distribution object property. Then select Distribution > Edge.

Now go to Scale on Edge and click on the Check Box. After that, increase the Edge Scale value to 100% to connect the Lines with the Spheres.

4. How to Render and Save the Geometric Shape

Step 1

On the top menu bar, click on the Edit Render Settings icon (Clapperboard with Gear icon).

Select Output to specify the Image Resolution of the geometric shape. Then put the values at 2500 pixels Width and Height.

Select Save and go to the Alpha Channel. Then click on the Check Box so the shape will be transparent.

Go to the top menu bar again and click on the Render to Picture Viewer icon.

The Geometric Confusion Shape has been rendered. It took no more than one second.

Now go to the menu and select File > Save as. After that, select Format > PNG. Then save the result by clicking the OK button.

5. How to Convert the Result Into a Photoshop Brush

Step 1

Open Photoshop. Go to the main menu and select File > Open. Then upload the PNG File into Photoshop.

We need to change the color of the shape from white to black. Therefore, Right-Click on the Layer and select the Blending Options.

Now select the Color Overlay and click on the Thumbnail of Color.

Select the Black color by putting the color code #000000 in the form.

Go to the main menu and select Image > Trim. Then click on the OK button to crop the shape.

The shapehas been cropped. Go to the main menu again and select Edit > Define Brush Preset.

Enter the name of the brush.

On the left menu bar, select the Brush Tool. Then Right-Click on the document to select the Geometric Confusion Brush.

Using these methods, you can create different abstract shapes in Cinema 4D and easily convert them into Photoshop Brushes.
